Sometimes, courage feels like an all-or-nothing endeavor. You either have it or you don’t. Kind of like joy. Kind of like peace.

This is often how we think about goodness and health and freedom.

But if the last year has taught me anything, it is this: We are all on a journey, and said journey never ends.

You can be scared out of your mind and still put one foot in front of the other.

You can be building your house without the pressure of perfecting it right now.

Baby steps.

I’ve taken a lot of baby steps this year.

Sometimes, they look like sentences added to my novel synopsis.

Other times, they are literal steps outside my door.

I’ve been driving on the interstate! That’s not a big deal for most people, but it’s a very big deal for people with driving anxiety.

Next week, I have a consultation appointment to get my wisdom teeth removed. If you know me, you know what a process it has been to get here.

This is why I like the word building. Because, when I look at the full picture of my life right now, I don’t know what comes after

this
next
step.

But I know it is good.

Not a long post today. Just an honest one.

If you’re not sure what lies around the bend, know that you are not alone.

Don’t rush it.
